Winning a Bold.org Scholarship

Greetings reader, you have reached my blog! I am a pharmacy student at St. Louis College of Pharmacy at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, MO.

Four years ago, I met an eleven-year-old deaf boy. His biological family was not able to provide the support he needed as a deaf person, so when I met him, he had no language. As you can imagine, if you do not have a way to communicate, you cannot make friends, and he had none. Thankfully, another family that had the means to provide that support adopted him, and he learned American Sign Language (ASL), connected with the Deaf community, and made friends. He knows his name! It is my desire to make sure all people have that support, regardless of the challenges they may face.

It is my goal to advocate for the Deaf in healthcare as a future pharmacist. I organize Health Fairs in the community for people with disabilities and hire ASL interpreters for the Deaf. This allows students to learn how to interact with the Deaf community through interpreters in a more casual environment.

Pharmacy school; however, is expensive. Thankfully, many organizations provide scholarships for students like myself. Taking the time to find them can be overwhelming, especially between studying for classes and organizing the advocacy events. To spend more time applying for scholarships, I have made a profile on Bold.org. With this profile, they use the information I provide to match scholarships to me. Another benefit is that I can nominate other students for scholarships. By nominating someone, they will have a better chance of selection for the scholarship, and I will gain “Bold points,” which is a considered factor when I apply for scholarships. This helps create a supportive environment as not all scholarships posted on Bold.org apply to me, but I can improve my chances of being selected for future scholarships by informing my friends and classmates about these scholarships.

You can join Bold.org too to help you pay for college. Be sure to use my link, so I can earn points for inviting you, and you will have a better chance of selection since you were invited, rather than joining on your own. Thank you!
